Westfield Community Players (WCP) will be presenting its
third production of its current season with The Glass
Menagerie written by what has been regarded as one of
America's most highly esteemed playwrights, Tennessee
Williams. Tennessee Williams' 100th anniversary is
celebrated this year. The Glass Menagerie is considered
one of Williams' masterpieces: a memorable tragedy about
the failures of family structure, the failures of capitalism, and
broken promises. Amanda Wingfield, a woman alone during
the Great Depression, is trapped between illusion
and reality. She wants the best for her children, but is
incapable of acknowledging what that would be for her shy
and introverted daughter and her son burdened by family
obligations.
This production is being directed by veteran WCP director,
Fred Cuozzo and produced by Sally Brown.
In the cast are: Mary Dolan Flaherty as Amanda Wingfield,
who will be making her WCP debut with this show. In the role
of Laura Wingfield is Kristina Hernandez who made her WCP
debut last year as Catherine in A View from the Bridge, and
who was last seen as Karen Daniels in WCP's January
production of "Rehearsal for Murder." Playing Tom Wingfield
will be Brian Remo, who WCP audience will remember from
Dial M for Murder as Max Halliday, Abie in Abie's Irish Rose
and Rodolpho in A View from the Bridge. Mr. Remo made
his WCP directorial debut in January with "Rehearsal for
Murder." Closing out this exceptional cast is Mike Burdick,
who is playing the Gentleman Caller. Mr. Burdick made his
WCP debut several years ago in Fools as Snetsky and was
last seen in Smoke & Mirrors last season at WCP.
The Glass Menagerie will run Mar. 3, 10, 17, 23 & 24 at
8:00pm. There is a matinee performance on Mar. 18.
Tickets are $20. Because of the historical value of this show,
Student rate tickets are being offered at $10 for
every performance.
