Les Malamut Art Gallery is now a member of Union County Navigator - A Social Network for Union County, NJ
The group raised money through grants and donations to install an elevator providing access to the lower level of the Public Library; the Library Trustees provided space and agreed to the formation of a Gallery Committee that would have responsibility for all artistic activities. The Library has provided the physical facility and supported the Gallery since March 1988.
When an exhibit opens, artists host a reception and the gallery provides publicity. Each year, 6 to 8 exhibits are mounted covering a broad spectrum of various media. Prospective artists are invited to submit slides or samples of their work to members of the Gallery Committee.
|
Members of the Gallery Committee are volunteers; some are artists, others are interested members of the community. The Library Director serves as liaison to the Library Board of Trustees. There is no paid staff. New Board members and volunteers are being actively sought to assist in and extend the outreach of the Gallery.
The Gallery is open during Library hours. Artists interested in exhibiting work and individuals desiring to become board members or just volunteering their services, can email Barbara Wirkus at dmbbw33@yahoo.com for information.
