Brearley did not wrestler Raritan and GL's season was not done Friday night.
It was first reported on the bracket listed at nj.com that Brearley was to wrestle Central Jersey champion Raritan and that North 1 champ High Point would take on South Jersey champion Delsea in Sunday's Group 2 semifinals at Toms River North High School in Toms River.
However, for some reason, the semifinals…

Late in 2007 a broad probe of New Jersey colleges and universities showed the entire system was vulnerable to abuse. Serious shortcomings in accountability, transparency and outright violations of public trust were found, not to mention political influence.
When the State of New Jersey Commission of Investigation launched this probe, the storm centered on the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Rutgers…

Standout seniors Morgan Miller of Cranford, Anna Lies of Dayton and Alyssa Polimeni of Governor Livingston - three of the best players in Union County - are getting ready to have a grand time.
On Friday at home at 4 p.m. vs. conference-crossover foe Scotch Plains, Miller needs just 15 points to reach 1,000 for her career.
On Monday night at the same time - 7:30 - in the two different gyms (down…

Rick Iacono, who is in his 38th season as a head wrestling coach and 11th at Governor Livingston, has always demonstratively proclaimed wrestling as the greatest sport.
“There’s wrestling and then there’s everything else,” Iacono said.
It was on Wednesday night when his Highlanders produced one of their greatest victories.
Trailing by 10 points with four matches to go, fifth-seeded GL won…

Oak Knoll first-year head coach John Bertollo - even though he is new to all of this - thought his Royals were very deserving of the seventh seed.
“We’ve been ranked seventh for the last three weeks,” Bertollo said Tuesday following his team’s 49-38 division home loss to Governor Livingston. “If you look at the teams under us – New Providence and a couple of other teams – we’ve beaten them and done our…

The last time Plainfield won the Union County Tournament the captain of the two-time defending World Series champion New York Yankees was the best catcher in the American League – No. 15, Thurman Munson.
We were also just weeks away from Magic vs. Bird in the NCAA final and George Young making the decision to sign a quarterback out of Morehead State named Phil Simms.
The year was 1979. It was that…

On the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 26 at Kean University’s Harwood Arena in Union, I can see the Union County Tournament trophy being handed to:
Governor Livingston head coach Andy Silvagni, with a very happy Highlander squad the first in school history to win the county championship.
