Johnson wrestlers place second in Colt Classic; Mogensen at 152, Vinegra at 160 and Montouri at 195 win championships

The Johnson wrestling team performed well enough to place second in the 10-team, second annual Colt Classic at Kinnelon, which was held Jan. 14.

Crusader champions included Kyle Mogensen at 152 pounds, Mark Vinegra at 160 and Sal Montouri at 195.

Placing second for Johnson was Ed Olenick at 220 and third were John Coler at 132 and Jake Egner at 145.

Other schools that competed in addition to host Kinnelon and Johnson were Hasbrouck Heights, Morris Catholic, East Orange, Chatham, Bayonne, Woodbridge, Wayne Hills, and West Windsor/Plainsboro North.

Johnson, coached by Ric Ortega and three-time Roselle Park Union County Tournament champion Eric Swick, begins the final week of the dual meet season with a 7-11 record.

The Crusaders have wins over Summit, West Windsor/Plainsboro North, Morris Catholic, New Providence, Metuchen, Plainfield and Mountain Lakes.

Johnson has a home match scheduled Tueday at 6 p.m. vs. Carteret and a tri-meet at home scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. against Kinnelon, New Brunswick and Hudson Catholic.
